4. Advanced Biomaterials, Biodevices and Biotechnology

Scope
Section “Advanced Biomaterials, Biodevices and Biotechnologies” is focused on the interdisciplinary areas of bioelectrochemistry and bioenergetics as well as related fields like biophysics, biotechnology, biomaterials and medical biophysics.

The section will focus on the role played by the recent progress of advanced materials on the field of bioactive and biocompatible materials, drug delivery and biosensing, biofunctionalization of materials surfaces such as tissue engineering scaffolds and antimicrobial materials, processing and characterization of biomaterial surfaces.

Nowadays, the next step in the resource recovery from the wastewater is the direct production of electricity (microbial fuel cells) and products (microbial electrolysis cells) in bioelectrochemical systems. Thus, this section aims at discussing also the most recent and relevant results related to bioelectrochemical systems.
